Why mobile apps need to go out the door with high quality

Why mobile testing is a critical step in mobile application development process

These days, mobile application users expect intuitive design and fast, seamless processing. On the production side, enterprises must develop apps that are secure across multiple devices and networks. A flaw on either side of an app can be detrimental to the product, consumer trust and the enterprise at large.

Just like your laptop or desktop, mobile devices are vulnerable to malware, Trojans and other forms of invasion. These threats can find their way onto devices via emails, text messages, browser hijacks and even apps themselves. Even worse, these invasions can potentially access sensitive and personal data, especially if employees use their mobile devices for work. Often times, enterprise level encryption is needed for “Bring Your Own Device” to be secure.

Tips on App Security

  •          Require user authentication
  •          Encrypt data in transit and at rest
  •          Test across all mobile platforms you intend to support (i.e. android, Windows, iOS)
  •          Offer remote lock and data wipe
  •          Deep packet inspection at network gateways
  •          Maintain as audit trail for all data access
  •          Third party security penetration testing

The need for mobile QA testing

In order for mobile apps to maintain a balance between convenience and security, proper QA testing is essential. In today’s market of constantly evolving technologies, devices, and updates, it is necessary to have consistent monitoringqa.jpg and testing to ensure a functioning mobile app that evolves with the needs of the users.

IT and software test teams must adapt traditional quality assurance tests to a much faster paced mobile environment—in the mobile market speed is everything. Without proper planning and testing, the brand, revenue and productivity may all suffer as a result.

To ensure ROI, test your application pre-launch and also continue to test and monitor post-launch to ensure continued high performance. Mobile testing should include functional testing, usability, performance validation and real-device testing. Widespread adoption will not occur with an application that is slow or hard to decipher.
