CGI-BIN ACCESS

I'm having a problem accessing the cgi-bin dir from my web browser. I always get the infamous "Internal Server Error 500". Its not my script though, i tried putting a regular HTML file in there, and that didnt work either. Does anyone know the exact path to perl on these hosting appliances ? I'm lost....
