vpn sa3000 file transfer stops during copy

When I connect using vpn client I can copy files from the office server if I use Terminal server, but when I just connect my windows 98 or 2000 to the server and try to do a big file copy using explorer it starts to copy and then appears to timeout saying the network drive is not available. Any help would be apprciated.
