Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

Does anyone know if there is a solution to fix the Microsoft Outlook "save password" feature? I recently purchased a compaq desktop computer with Windows XP. I loaded XP Office Professional. When I open Outlook it prompts me to enter the ISP password every time. Even though I have checked, "remember password". It is frustrating. Any help would be great.

Re: Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

Cindy,

This is caused by incorrect or corrupted info in the registry.

Use regedit.exe or regedt32.exe to delete the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ProtectedStorageSystemProvider

Restart Windows.

This will delete all stored passwords on the PC.

Be very careful editing the registry.

Please let us know what happens.

The Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 264672 refers to Outlook Express and I don't use Outlook Express. I use Outlook XP. Will this still fix my issue???

Re: Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

Why does all the Knowledge Base help state Outlook Express? Can I still try this fix even though I use Outlook?

Re: Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

No... they won't work if they are for Express.

Have you loaded SP1 and or SP2 for Office XP?

This have to do with XP, but the 2000 fix may still apply:

If you have multiple accounts:

In case you are using MSN:

That enough for OutLook 2002 ?? :-)

Re: Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

Jon, I appreciate your assistance. Can you tell me how I can find out what Office XP Service Pack I am running? What would happen if I download SP2 and install it over an existing SP2?

Re: Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

To find out what "version" of office you're running, open MS-Word, click on Help, about MS-Word. The very first line should state what SP you are on.

Installing an SP over the top of the same SP will NOT hurt anything.

Re: Win XP and Outlook XP Password does not save

I am in the same boat as Cindy. My problem is with Outlook XP (NOT EXPRESS) and did not see a clear solution in the discussion on how to preceed in this matter. ANy mention of this on microsoft is for EXPRESS or Win 98. I would love to fix this headache.

Is there a patch available? Do I have to go in the registry? (which makes a novice like me a little nervous)

Would someone mind assisting me? Cindy any thoughts? What worked for you?
