Data Protection: 4 Steps to Configure Mobile Device Access for HP Connected Backup

HP Connected Backup provides endpoint protection for Windows PCs and Mac OS X devices. Because users are constantly on the go and may not have their primary machine on-hand, Connected Backup also provides mobile device apps for both iOS and Android to enable access to backed-up data.

 

 

 

These mobile device apps are FREE and can be found in their respective App Stores:

Below I’ve detailed the instructions for the Apple iPad, however the Android setup is almost identical.

 

Getting started

Before you start, you need to know where your HP Connected Backup data center is (e.g. is it hosted by your company, or are you using HP’s data centers?). If you’re using HP’s data centers, you will need to know which cluster you are on to determine the host name URL. These are different because of local data protection, privacy laws and data sovereignty requirements. We make sure that a UK data center has no connection to a USA data center etc., so you need to point the app to the appropriate cluster. Here is a list of some of the HP URLs for each cluster:

  • AB cluster = MDAB.connected.com
  • CA cluster = MDCA.connected.com
  • CD cluster = MDCD.connected.com
  • EF cluster = MDEF.connected.com
  • EU cluster = MDEU.connected.com
  • GH cluster = MDGH.connected.com

If your company hosts its own Connected Backup data center, you will need to contact your backup admin to determine the host URL you need to use. Typically Host Name = Management API FQDN

 

Step 1: Your backup administrator must enable mobile device access—if not already set—within Support Center. This is done within the Agent Settings section:

 


 

Step 2: Download, install and launch the app on your device. You can find the app in the iTunes App Store by searching for “autonomy connected”.

 

 

 

Step 3: The first time you launch the app, you’ll need to enter the Host Name URL (mentioned above) and select if you are using an SSO (Single Sign On) provider or not. Then you will need to enter your Connected Backup username (typically your email address) and password. (if your implementation is configured with Enterprise Directory (LDAP) integration this will be your domain credentials)

 

 

 

 

 

Step 4: If you have more than one Connected Backup account associated with the same username/password, the application will prompt you to choose which account you wish to connect to.

 

 

 

After completing these straight forward steps, you’re connected! You should be able to access your backed-up data from your mobile device. You will be able to browse the directory structure, search, download and view your files.
