Labs researcher Kimberly Keeton has been made a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery

 Labs distinguished technologist Kimberly Keeton has received another signal honor. She has been made a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, the world’s largest computing society.

These global fellowships are extended to those members of the ACM who have made “pivotal achievements that underpin the digital age.” Keeton has been honored specifically “(f)or contributions improving the dependability, manageability, and usability of storage and novel memory systems.”

The fellowship is a rewarding bit of recognition, according to Keeton.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be named an ACM Fellow,” says Keeton. “I’ve been fortunate to be able to do groundbreaking research and see it translated into products, services, and publications that have influenced the community. It’s exciting to have this work be recognized.”

That work, which has extended over 20 years, includes investigation into and innovations concerning storage, data and information management; Memory-Driven Computing; dependable system design; intelligent memory and storage; and workload characterization. She has over 50 peer-reviewed publications (several of which have won awards).  Keeton has contributed to multiple HPE products, and has 20 US patents, with 24 more pending.

Like many Labs researchers, Keeton is active in professional groups. In addition to being an ACM Fellow, she is an IEEE Senior Member, and has served as a member of over 40 technical program committees, including chairing the program committees for top conferences on computer systems, storage, measurement and modeling, and dependable systems.

“Kim’s elevation to the level of Fellow of ACM is a recognition and validation of her deep and varied contributions to the field of systems software,” says Cullen Bash, VP of R&D for Hewlett Packard Labs. “It’s exciting to see that the external systems community has extended this prestigious honor to a member of HPE’s technical community.  We are indeed privileged to have her as part of our extended technical family.”
