New ! How HP SHR integrates with HP Operations Analytics for reporting on Log Content

‎08-08-2014 06:35 AM - edited ‎01-31-2015 08:29 PM

IT systems and technology infrastructure in an enterprise generate data every second of the day and log data forms a significant portion of the same. As one of the fastest growing and most complex segments of big data, log data is also one of the most valuable.

HP Operations Intelligence suite offers solutions that provide deep-dive analytics collecting, analyzing and visualizing log data amongst other large data sets. It provides a unified way to organize and extract real-time insights from massive amounts of these data sets generated across diverse sources.

You can now as well generate reports in HP Service Health Reporter with data sourced from HP Operations Analytics and view them in the HP SHR InfoView reporting portal - the newly released SHR Log Content on BSM Community Content pages stands as a testimony to this integration, furthering the extent of consolidated reporting in your enterprise.

HP SHR helps business users understand structured data that is usually represented as fields, such as a records in relational database tables. The HP Operations Intelligence suite extracts information from unstructured data, which is usually in free text format. SHR therefore can consume information from Operations Intelligence products adhering to the CEF (Common Event Format).

Now, before you begin to create reports of your choice in SHR based on Log Content, you must configure the integration between SHR and Operations Analytics. The steps to do the same are detailed in the HP SHR Log Content User Guide. [Do note that this also offers guidance in general on how to integrate an SHR instance with a Vertica database source.]

With SHR, business users can have interactive views of the report; they can print the report, send the report as email to another user, save the report in PDF format, and edit the report with the Web Intelligence tool, and so on. Users can also enable drill across into other SHR performance reports based on the domain of interest.

The SHR Log Content reports are also available on the SHR InfoView portal, which makes it easier for publication (see the technical blog on Report Bursting to know more about this feature).

One last thing to note: a reminder that SHR 9.31 stays open for Content Customization and Extensibility, continuing to provide flexible reporting options via its Content Development Environment (CDE), which was introduced in SHR 9.20.

The SHR Log Content source artifacts are as well shared on the SHR Community pages, enabling you to have a head-start on building your own customized reporting content based on Log Data sets.
