ProLiant DL360 G6 64-bit Ubuntu

I have a ProLiant DL360 G6. I want(ed) to install Ubuntu. My business critical application will require 64-bit mode. I see from the Ubuntu website that the G6 is certified only for x86 (32-bit) kernel.

http://webapps.ubuntu.com/certification/list/?category=Server

However I also see, I think, from the HP website that RHEL and SUSE will run 64-bit kernel on the G6. From the support matrices, both are vendor certified and hp supported.

I'm reluctant to just try Ubuntu 64-bit kernel, in case it turns out that it installs ok but then later after system goes into production a problem shows up.

Suggestions?

Shalom,

The ubuntu will work. it is debian based. If Debian is certified it will work.

But your concerns are valid. You are better off if you need support to use a vendor that is on the matrix. The PSP tools will work and overall your situation will be better.

You can try Ubuntu x86_64/amd64 if the processor/s on the machine can do 'lm'. Test this by greping for the 'lm' flag in 'cat /proc/cpuinfo'.

If Redhat and SuSE can run the x86_64 port on this machine, it may as well run Debian/Ubuntu. For Debian GNU/Linux you should install the amd64 port, all systems having RAM > 6 GB and which can do 'lm' should be loaded with the x86_64 OS port.

All certifications were done with 64-bit. I've contacted the Ubuntu folks who are looking into correcting the web site.

I should add that my primary box is a laptop running 64 bit Ubuntu.

It works flawlessly.

I didn't realize that this was a website error.

It would be good to have PSP installed on the system, but it sounds like a Debian based PSP does exist and is supported by HP.

Ubunutu has a server edition that really kicks a**.

On the application side anything that runs on 32 or 64 bit Debian will probably work just fine, even if Ubunutu is not specifically mentioned.
