12910 MDC + IRF - 40G Module Assignement - JG889B 4 HP FF 12900 24p 40GbE QSFP+ FX Mod
Dears,
I have 2 core 12910 switches running IRF to build one logical switch.
the IRF has 4 40G ports / links on 40 Module [JG889B - HP FF 12900 24p 40GbE QSFP+ FX Mod]
After IRF creation i create new MDC other than defaul admin mdc 1.
When i try to allocate some 40G ports from the 40G module it is refues and rejected.
The 40G module is supporting multibe MDC as understood however i cant create it.
Any advise on this ?
So at end 40 G module should have some ports on mdc 1 admin and some ports on production mdc 2.
Below are output when try to allocate interfaces from 40G module to mdc2,
If i try to unlocte the module on admin mdc 1 it reject due to iRF using it.
Attached is complete logs for my configuration
[HP-ADC-3F-ADMIN-MDC-12910-01-mdc-2-SF_MDC]allocate interface FORTY 1/0/0/1 to F
ORTY 1/0/0/17
Configuration of the interfaces will be lost. Continue? [Y/N]:y
Can't allocate the interface(s), Please check Source mdc 1 and undo location the slot first, then allocate the interface(s)!

The MDC stuff is a little strange to configure. Depending on the LPU, You have to allocate groups of ports to different MDC's. It is on a chip boundry in hardware that determines this.
In order to re-allocate the ports, you need to undo the locations in MDC 1 so that the ports are available to be reassigned and you should be all set. The MDC configuration guide is pretty good in discussing this. You will probably have to play with the allocation to get it right. I had a case where I needed to move some ports around and it took a bit to find the right combination of commands to make it happen. It is doable and it does work.
Regards,
David

Interesting.
Does the HPE FlexNetwork 12900 Switch Series permit flexible MDC allocation based on (LPU) port groups (as example when a LPU supports, let's say, 4 port groups defined by LPU ports 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16)?
A nice HP Architecture Guide for deploying MDC can be found here.
