Bootrom update 715 fails on JG240A A5500-48G-PoE+

Hello -

I am trying to upgrade our JG240A A5500-48G-PoE+ switches to Bootrom version 715 and software version 5.20 R2220 (they currently have R2215).

I downloaded the latest software from

When I try to apply the Bootrom update, I get:

  Failed to update bootrom of Board 1.

my display version is:

I've tried this bootrom update on another 5500 and it also failed...

Any ideas?

(Silly question!)

Did you copy the new bootrom into flash first?

dir unit1>flash:

delete/unreserved unit1>flash:/ xyz

reset recycle-bin unit1>flash:/

tftp aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa get a5500ei-btm-715.btm

boot bootrom unit1>flash:/ a5500ei-btm-715.btm

Yes, the file is on the device, transferred to the device via FTP Binary mode.  Below is a directory listing, and another failed attempt to apply the bootrom.

I have the same problem with JD374A, HP A5500-24G-SFP.

Update from 707 to 710 and then to 712 was without problem, but I am not able to update to 715. The only "diagnostic" message is "Failed to update bootrom of Board 1."

Did anyone succeed in updating the bootrom to 715?

Is this md5sum OK?

I haven´t had any problems on A5500-EI nor on 3Com 4800G or HP E4800. I´m updating from R2210. Have you tried downgrading and upgrading afterwards?

BTW, there seems to be two different "compilations":

5500.EI-4800G_R2220-US_5500.EI-4800G_R2220-US ("Software built in the United States")

and

5500.EI_4800G_R2220_5500.EI_4800G_R2220

with different file sizes. I assume you´re using the first one?

Yes, I used the US version. I don't see non-US version anywhere.

The original firmware version in the switch was r2208p01 with 707 bootrom. First I wanted to go directly to R2220 and tried to update bootrom to 715. Now I have r2215 with 712 bootrom. Unfortunately there's no r2210 for my switch in https://h10145.www1.hp.com/Downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=JD374A

MichaelM55 - The only software I see is the "US" version, which I would personally prefer.  However, where did you see the other one?  I can't seem to find it.  I've attached a screenshot of the software options I am presented with when I enter my model # (JG240A) on the HP Procurve website...

I have contacted HP Support and they have sent me the non-US version which is working for me.

They said: "the issue with .btm file will be escalated , and the standard .bin file will be published in about one week after validation from our R&D department."
