Upgrade a 3100 - not enough space on Flash

Hi,

I wanted to update the software on a 3100 that I want to use as a lab switch, and I couldn't because once I had uploaded the file, it told me that "flash space is not enough".  Apparently, 8MB flash is not enough to have 2 OS installed at the same time.  Do I have to overwrite my current OS image to upgrade?  What if it goes back, no backup image?  Is flash so expensive that they can't afford more than 8MB in this switch?

Also, the latest versions varies depending if you look at H3C's or HP's website (H3C is more recent).  Is that normal?

Thanks,

Ugo

I dont know why they didnt fitted the 3100 with more flash, but yeah.. if it cant hold both your old and your new software, you have to delete the current one, upload the new one and boot it... and hope nothing goes wrong ;P
