DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Hi.

I have update both cell manager and oracle client to 6.20. All the backup plans were already configured and working fine before the update, now, everytime e try to configure a new client or change something at the already configured clients i get this error:

IPC Invalid Hostname or IP Address
[11004] No data record available

At the "check installation" option on the clients page i get:

[Normal]  Done: processes verification

[Normal]  Done: configurations match verification

[Normal]  Done: files verification

[Normal]  Done. Version A.06.20 installed. Cell Manager and client hostname configuration match.

I can telnet on 5555 port from both directions (cell to client / client to cell) and the FQDN resolves fine.

Can anyone point something here ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Hi Carlos,

looks like resolution problem. check that.

Also , did you install the lates patche for DP 6,21?

Did try to delete the integration and do it again?

Regards.

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Hi Barbedor,

What troubleshooting steps have you tried? Have you run check configuration and also tried to recreate the integration config files? What exactly is the error message you get?

cheers,
jenni

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Hi Barbedor,

OK so the error message you get when trying to configure the integration is the thing you need to resolve, until this bit works the backup won't work. Lets take a step back, can you forward and reverse resolve the client from the cell manager & media agent? What happens when you try to configure and run a filesystem backup of some flat files on the client, does this work ok?

jenni

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

They are no problem to resolve from cell manager and client.

And the filesystem backup is working fine...

Note: we are in microsoft cluster environnement.

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Hi Barbedor,

Please can you confirm that the virtual resource hosting the oracle database is both in the clients list and also listed as a virtual cluster resource in the Clients Tab MS Clusters section? When you configure the integration are you selecting the virtual resource hosting the oracle database or the active cluster node?

cheers,
jenni

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Most likely, the Oracle integration has stored the wrong virtual instance name in the configuration file. Have seen this with shortname instead of FQDN. Check \server\barlists\oracle8 on CS.

Also hostnames in uppercase could cause trouble.

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

Thanks for your help

For information, it's à RAC uder linux.

All hostnames are in lowercase.

All dp process are hanging in the client.

Re: DP 6.20 Oracle error after update

There must be something wrong in the configuration files. Not sure if the upgrade broke something or if it was not 100% correct before. Would be best to start over completely to make everything is fine.

1. Write down how the backup spec was configured / get the required passwords

2. Delete backup specs using the GUI

3. Export the virtual host from cell

4. Export the physical hosts from cell and delete software

5. rm -rf /etc/opt/omni /opt/omni /var/opt/omni on the physical nodes to clean up

6. push Data Protector software (DA, ORA and maybe MA)  including patches to the physical nodes / import virtual host afterwards

7. Check if the users configured for Oracle integration are in the admin or operator group in Data Protector user management / double check host names here, too

8. Reconfigure Oracle integration from scratch and test again

Doing so makes sure the binaries are current, name resolution is working and written to the correct files in the right format. Let us know how it goes.

Sebastian
