Nightmare after reboot of Media server & Cell Manager...

Hi all,

First off a little about our environment:

1 x DP 6.20 Cell Manager - Win 2008 R2

1 x Media Server - Win 2008 connected to....

...2 x HP D2D units via iSCSI

Every time we reboot either the cell manager or the media server, all the drives / devices get swapped around within DP.  We have to spend an age tracking down drive serial numbers by cross referencing the drive ID's within the D2D web interface and then re-adding the SCSI address of data drive within each drive.

Generally stuff just seems to get mixed up after reboots.  We've just spent an entire morning trying to sort it out again...

I'm not sure if this even makes sense to anyone but if it does we could sure do with some help with this!!  Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hi Graham,

In the device properties page for each drive there should be a tick box marked "Automatically dicover changed SCSI address"

Hopefully this will fix it.

You should also add the iSCSI tape and changer devices to the persistent targets in the iSCSI software initiator on your cell server and MA. Reboot after this change and bring clean up Data Protector devices manually. Just click the dropdown on each device - DP will display the correct device with a green checkmark. "Automatically dicover changed SCSI address" jruffer mentioned is always useful for changer and tapes in DP.

Sebastian
