Trying to reinstall DP 6.11 on W2000 after accidental push to DP 6.2

Trying to reinstall DP 6.11 on W2000 after accidental push to DP 6.2

Here is my long tale....

We have a W2000 client server that accidentally had 6.2 disk agents pushed to it (it had 6.11 on it already).  Since W2000 is not supported by 6.2, the upgrade failed.  However, this caused a problem with DP on the W2000 box as the backups no longer worked.  DP was uninstalled from the server.  However, now when I attempt to reinstall 6.11, it says that a newer version is already installed.  However, a search through services, the registry, and even the directory tree shows no sign of DP.  There seems to be a DLL that still exists referencing DP but I am at a loss to know what it is.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Re: Trying to reinstall DP 6.11 on W2000 after accidental push to DP 6.2

The error I am getting when trying to reinstall DP 6.11 is as follows:

"Different build of the product is already installed.  Build-to-build upgrades are not supported.  Please deinstall the product first"

Thanks again for you help.

The error message is right. Remove the software manually using Windows software management. Then install Data Protector 6.11.

Try to Search with "OB2" in registry and remove which are related to DP and in same as file system

Then try to reinstall.

My better solution is to Update your Cell manager to DP 6.2 or higher so It will support all lower versions of DP Before upgrade You must Keep a latest backup of IDB and Directories.

He is already at version 6.2x, but this release does no longer support Windows 2000. He need to stick with the old agent for this operating system. Please don't mess around in the registry unless you have to. A local software deinstallation of 6.20 and installation of 6.11 will do the job.

Re: Trying to reinstall DP 6.11 on W2000 after accidental push to DP 6.2

Thank you, everyone, for your input.  However, I cannot uninstall whatever remnant of DP is still on the W2000 server.  It does not appear anywhere....not in Add/Remove programs.....not in the directory tree.....not even an instance of "omni" in the registry (other than in Legacy which cannot be removed).  I cannot reinstall version 6.11 because it states that a higher version is already installed, but it isn't.  There is something it is detecting in system32 or somewhere that is preventing the reinstall of 6.11.  Any suggestions?  Thanks again

PS - My cell manager and my installation server are already on 6.2.  My cell manager is a HPUX 11.23 IA server and my IS is a W7 and W2008.  I am trying to reinstall 6.11 on the W2000 server manually without push agents.  Thanks again

Re: Trying to reinstall DP 6.11 on W2000 after accidental push to DP 6.2

I'm a bit surprised by the problem you are having.

I think it's rather poor that this happens, it would be much better if the IS noticed that it was an unsupported client and didn't trash it.

So far I've always been able to uninstall and reinstall.

I've had a look round one of my W2000 clients and I can't see any likely dll files.  As far as I am aware everything is kept within C:\Program Files\Omniback

Is it worth trying ccleaner or something similar?
