Data Protector 8.1 Linux: How to start GUI?

Hi,

  I've just upgraded my DP 7 to 8.1, I can't find "xomni".

How can I start the GUI?

Jason,

There is no xomni anynmore.  You have to install a Windows client and use that.

Further to this, you may have some firewall issues - come back to me here if you do and I will point you in the right direction.

Are you on Redhat or SUSE?

If you are trying to run the Java GUI from your Linux cell manager, the 'xomni' command no longer exists, because support for the Java GUI has gone away.  You will need to use the Windows GUI

The system running the Windows GUI should be in the same domain as your cell manager, if not, you would need to create some firewall rules, and set a range of ports in the 'omnirc' file, but, lets jump off that bridge if we come to it

RHEL 5.5, no firewall problem, just don't expect HP dropped the xomni GUI

How will administrators create Linux ISO files for EADR if the Java GUI has been removed?

In the Disaster Recovery Guide for DP 8.1,

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00702188?searchIdentifier=6deae444%3a1468fa140fa...=

on pp 117-119, the procedure for creating an ISO file seems to be identical to create one for the Windows system, and can be done from the Windows GUI

For Linux you can also use the omniiso command.

I'm in midst of gettin a GUI to do some initial setup in a Linux environment.

DP 9.0. GUI installed on a PC running Windows 7. This is only a client to administer this cell.

Need to pass through a firewall to my DP domain.

Open a tunnel via web GUI and then;

ssh 127.0.0.1:"host port"

I open up port 5555 and 5556, also 7518 and 7519.

Telnet to 5555 works.

Altered UserList to "*" "*" "*" "*" "Admin"

Will this setup work at all, possibly as you mention get some input to omnirc file,   or do I have to get a GUI client inside the domain?

You will probably need a Windows system to run your GUI inside your domain

You will at least need Port 5555 (OmniInet) and 7116 (AppServer) open in your Firewall.

Not sure about the Reconnect PortRange, believe this is only needed for DiskAgent and Co.
