VA7410 Battery issue

I was wondering if the forum could help me with a question.  One of the controllers on our VA7410 is giving a battery is shot error message.  Can the battery be replaced while the system is live?  I have two controllers and one seems to be working fine.  How would I tell if the controllers are in a fail over mode?  running hp-ux 11.23 u.  Thanks for any help in advance.

Could be worse. Could be raining.
