Will HP arrays only

accept HP drives, or is it more a recommendation? The models I have in mind are MSA20 and MSA60.

Re: Will HP arrays only

Oh quite often non-HP drives do work.

One thing HP sells for why to use their drives is that they are always the same size (at least should be..). So if you need to replace a drive you do not need to worry if the replacement drive is too small.

Thank you Johan, and what about the controller, will any SCSI/SAS do?

Re: Will HP arrays only

I currently have 2TB non-HP Seagate drives working in an MSA20 without any noticeable issues connected to an SA6402.

I do relaize that if problems do occur some of the firmware error codes may not match the HP ADU error registers, but I'm willing to figure out the errors on my own.

:-)

One thing that also needs to be considered is HP will only give support to their own hardware and drives. Outside of that any hard drive should work as long as it meets the basic specs of the controller. If you're not concerned about support then you should have no problems using other manufactured drives.
