NC523SFP won't allow Mac Pro ESXi 5.5 host to boot with latest firmware applied
Hi!
This is a bit of a weird situation. We've recently acquired 2 NC523SFP 10GbE cards to use for VMware ESXi. One of them is inserted into a DL380p G8; the other is in a Mac Pro (to allow us to run virtualised Mac OS X Mavericks).
The inital problem (which still isn't solved) was to get ESXi on the Mac Pro to recognise the card as a network card; the DL380p G8 has no problem with the card. With the default firmware, ESXi boots up fine, recognises the network card from a PCI level, but doesn't load the drivers to use it as a network card. With the latest firmware, the Mac Pro refuses to boot.
We're pretty convinced that the NC523SFP simply isn't compatible with this hardware, but if anyone's found a way round this, we'd be pleased to hear of it!
