Google results shows ITRC old URL
Dear Admins,
When I Google for any error message, say an "ORA-00600 on HP-UX" it shows me the old (!) ITRC forms site URL on the results and when I click on the URL I'm landed on the home page of the new HP Community site.
Now from here how do I reach the actual post which I'm trying to access from Google?

Re: Google results shows ITRC old URL
Does really everybody believe HP or any other company has the mystic power to influence the content of Google cache or any other search engine?
They are just indexes by browsing the website, which means as soon as you change something it is outdated and need to get indexed again. This needs time ...
The big question is why did everybody use Google? Because the search funtion in the old forum was broken since years, after the migration we have again a working search funtion (the box on the top right).
Perhaps it is worth a try?
My 2 Cent,
Stephan

Re: Google results shows ITRC old URL
You may be right.
But it is a general practice for anyone to go to Google for any immediate help for an error and when we get a broken link it sucks! :smileysad:
Good to see that the search is finally working in the community.
Any change will take time to get accepted..
Who moved my cheese....
You get your 2 cents Stephan! :smileyhappy:

Re: Google results shows ITRC old URL
But what about the links on the old posts in ITRC??!!
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Databases/Ora-00600/m-p/3623787/highlight/true#M31857
One of the replies points to http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=951147 which is again dead!!
Is there any map to the old thread-id to the migrated thread-id?
Getting back the 2 cents! :smileymad:

Re: Google results shows ITRC old URL
They are already working on the migration of the old links in the forums, starting from new posts to old ones, but again this will need some time.
It got posted before, more then 2.5 million posts have been migrated - give them a chance.
Best,
Stephan

Re: Google results shows ITRC old URL
You may be correct about companies effecting Google results, but it is making searching for solutions much more difficult none the less.
This will likely resule in higher call volumes as users can no longer find results on Google.

google works the same way with the old documents on docs.hp.com. :-(
Did you try using the cached link?

It's a little bit tricky ... generally spoken it is
1. search Google to find the old thread using "forums.itrc.hp.com threadid=951147"
2. from the cached page you get the tread title
3. switch to the subforum where it belongs to (in this case HP-UX - Databases, you can see this in the Google summary, for a mapping old to new forum see my signature)
4. Use the Search Box (Top right) and give it time to find something before pressing enter
5. Pick the thread with the same title as seen on Google
6. done
