i am facing a problem as i cannot use run bios "kzbcc-xe raid controller" through the GUI or serial interfaces.
it prevented me from configuring the internal 10 hard disks.
from GUI: run bios "name-of-raid-controller".
it shows me the disks and press cntl+D. i pressed but it returned to a hanged console again without entering the configuration menu.
from TUI "serial": it doesn't hang but it returns the prompt without any output.
I updated the console firmware to 7.3
I tried another card. but no changes.
I tried kzpac but it went in a loop saying "waiting to poll".
can you help in that?
Thanks

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
I believe you have tried
>>> run bios pza0
0 or 1 depend upon the number. When you press Ctrl D, make sure don't press the keys again and again and once pressed release the keyboard and wait. It will come and inside the menu also you need to work with patience. as if you pressed the keys multiple time then it will hang then you have to reboot the machine again.
Best of luck.

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
be patient, and it only works correct after "init" or even power-cycle. you cannot run the bios twice in a row.

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
Can you confirm what RAID card you're using, as I don't recognise kzbcc-xe...
Looking at the supported options for the ES45 here:
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/options/ases45/ases45_15_79_options.html#OptListHead
I'm guessing its either a KZPDC or KZPEC or KZPCC.
Disks aren't movable between the Mylex based KZPAC and other controllers, hence why you got the waiting to poll error.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
it is DS-KZPCC-XE.
that means it will not work with this type of cards.

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
You'll find the user guide etc. for the KZPCC here:
http://www.compaq.com/alphaserver/products/storage/kzpcc.html
A few pointers...
According to the user guide the setup utility can only be used in graphics mode, not serial, although I'm sure I have had some success configuring with the serial console in the past.
I've only used these cards a couple of times, but if I remember correctly they can be "fun" to configure. If there's an existing configuration stored on the controller that you don't need, try booting up without any disks attached, and see if you can clear it.
Cheers,
Rob

SolutionAlso just noticed that the troubleshooting guide in the user guide could be very useful - page 75.
Symptom:
Pressing the Ctrl+D keys to access the SMOR does not work.
Cause:
Corrupted or faulty NVRAM.
Corrective Action:
Restore the NVRAM default settings by doing the following:
1. Power down the system, place a jumper across pins 1 and 2 of P4 on the controller. Refer to Figure 1-1 to locate the jumper. The jumper is labeled NVRAM.
2. Power up the system and wait until LEDs 3, 5, 7, and 8 on the controller begin flashing.
3. Turn off power to the system and remove the jumper.
4. The controller can now be reconfigured using SMOR.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
i have tried all the procedures that you submitted before posting this thread but nothing happened.
I Restored the NVRAM default settings using the procedures mentioned in that document but the same issue.
I think this kzpcc-xe is not supported.
now i am using scsi controller and using tru64 software raid helped me.
thanks

Re: ES45 with kzbcc-xe
you may look for the KZPCC-agent (on the Tru64-system) and StorageWorks Command Console (on a windows workstation) to configure the controller.
