Firestone and HP-UX 11i

My project is currently using Firestone on the HP-UX 10.20 platform. We want to upgrade our platform to 11.11 - does anybody know the earliest version of the Firestone password encryption software that runs in the 11.11 platform?

Thanks.

What is "firestone" ?? Is it a tire brand?

There's no reference to it at gnu.org, do you have any documentation on it?

btw, FRESH install 11i (11.11), do not attempt an upgrade.

Re: Firestone and HP-UX 11i

I think you mean "freestone", aka a generic version of SOS's Brimstone (which doesn't appear to exist anymore).

Just try porting or rebuilding it on hpux 11.11, see if it works.

Of course, being that it was last updated in 1995, I'd think that there are more viable security products.

Firestone, Bridgestone, whatever! Just don't try to run it on your suv!

It Firestone is not available, you can ever try on Bridgestone, Goodyear, Michelin and even Continental.

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)

Re: Firestone and HP-UX 11i

Okay funny people.

I have actually heard of an app named Firestone, but it was a while back.

You really need to check back with your application vender. If its not certified with HP-UX 11.11 it might be with 11.00.

Either way, go for a cold install, even if you have to "borrow" hardware on a temporary basis. The upgrade is quite nettlesome. It failes a high percentage of the time.

Re: Firestone and HP-UX 11i

As far as I know, there is no commercially available Firestone implementation for 11i. Firestone is now an old algorithm, and is being replaced by Fireguard.

You could look at the CESG site (www.cesg.gov.uk). Also, you could try getting in touch with Chris Simpson (contact details on the 11i certified products details).

Re: Firestone and HP-UX 11i

Thanks for your replies (the serious ones, that is). I've since discovered that CESG have not yet certified anything for the 11i platform. CESG said that certification for Fireguard was withdrawn because it wasn't up to scratch.
