Re: Full screen text editor

Hi,

Umm.. how about vi? It's the standard editor under POSIX, so it is included with most any UNIX.

If you must use emacs, it's available here:

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Editors/emacs-21.4/

There's also vim, nano, joe, and a host of others. Have a look at the "Editors" category on "The Porting and Archiving Centre":

Re: Full screen text editor

Thanks
I have allready tried http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Editors/emacs-21.4/
but the gz seems to be giving issues when trying to unzip using gunzip.
also "the" seems to be pretty ok as a full screen text editor but could not find a verion for IA64 hp-ux 11iv2 in the site.
is their any way to make emacs as a full screen text editor which will support extended columns.

Re: Full screen text editor

Using a xwindows env, like CDE you can use the text editor. On my system CDE (common desktop environment) uses /usr/dt/bin/dtpad.

Our company uses ReflectionX, or Exceed.

Sometimes it helps when you show the command
you used, and the output it produced. A
non-description, like some vague action is
"giving issues", is more annoying then useful.

Magazine publishers give issues. Computer
programs (or users) have problems.

I'd suggest using Vim ("-g"). I find it less
painful than plain "vi".

Probably because you used a PC in the middle and transferred the package using ASCII ftp and corrupted the data. Download the package again and make sure you specify BINARY when using ftp.

GUI-style editors are painful to use. You need to setup Xwindows emulation on your PC, then you're stuck with poking the cursor around the screen like Notepad on a PC. vi is 100x more powerful than a typical GUI editor -- all it takes is a little time and the mandatory textbook: The Ultimate Guide to vi.
