HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Hello!

I have one main problem in my configuration (HP Server - rp5470, Model No = 9000/800L3000-6x).

bash-2.04# uname -a
HP-UX HPUX B.11.11 U 9000/800 1117424671 unlimited-user license

I have HP StorageWorks va7410, connected via fiber channel to Fiber Channel Adapter. This adapter has following information:
Product ID = A6267AZ
Model No = va7410

But my system canтАЩt identify this adapterтАж

There is the output of тАЬioscanтАЭ command:
bash-2.04# ioscan
H/W Path Class Description

Obviously, that it hasnтАЩt any Fiber Channel Adapters (as a matter of fact, it connected to 0/0/4/2 hardware address).

I tried to install driver for device A6218A (I found it on media-disk with PartNo:5012-1978, тАЬHP-UX 11i support plus (December 2002)тАЭ, Patch PHCO_25870). In the description for this patch there is written the following:

тАв A6189B (VA7405 2Gb-FC Array)
тАв A6218A (VA7410 2Gb-FC Array)
тАж тАж тАж

I supposed, that it helped me, but it didnтАЩt, unfortunately.

I wish to get access to Virtual Array, but it's impossible to me; so now I donтАЩt know what to do...

How can I access HP StorageWorks disk array and mount it to system (using mount?) ?

Please, help me, if it's possible.

Thankful in advance!

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Hi Yuri,

try to use insf -e the will install the module.
After tis you should use the fibre channel.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Hi,

all the 0/0/4/x pathes are connected to internals, but not to slots.

Please try to re-seat the card and post a full "ioscan -fn" and note the number of the slot.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Is it OK? I just don't see anything like "fddi", "fibre" or something that can be associated with Fibre Channel Adapter. Maybe, just I don't know, what to search... Even addresses are different - I found 0/0/4/1 in the output, but not 0/0/4/2.

To Torsten-:
============
Whether correctly I had understood, that it's necessary to replace the Fibre Channel Adapter from one hardware slot to another? Or should I just run "ioscan -fn"? If so, then the output is following:
bash-2.04# ioscan -fn | grep 0/0/4
tty 1 0/0/4/0 func0 CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI BaseSystem (103c128d)
tty 0 0/0/4/1 asio0 CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI Serial (103c1048)
/dev/GSPdiag2 /dev/mux0
/dev/diag/mux0 /dev/tty0p1

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

In which slot the card is currently installed?

Looks like all slots are empty, so why not install the card in the most top slot.

You should see the card connected to

0/10/0/0

in ioscan.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Also, I have found out, that there is a command which lists the major device numbers and driver names of device drivers configured into the system and available for invocation via special files. It is "lsdev". I used it like that:
# lsdev | grep fddi
50 -1 fddi4 lan
62 -1 fddi3 unknown

But now I can't understand what is "fddi4" and "fddi3" in my system. Maybe, is it my adaptor?

I'm sorry to say, but right now (even today) I can't find out in which slot adaptor is connected. Because I haven't access to the room in which HP server is located. I saw this server only twice - about one month ago. As I remember, the adaptor is connected to the 2-nd slot from the top.

So tomorrow I'll ask to replace the adaptor to another slot.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Again, what you see in your first ioscan output:

0/0/4/0 tty PCI BaseSystem (103c128d)
0/0/4/1 tty PCI Serial (103c1048)

are serial connections (class tty), in this case provides by the GSP and intended for the systems console and UPS.

An ioscan output from a similar system with an FC card installed in the top slot looks like this:

fc 0 0/10/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon XL2 Fi
bre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td0

Even your driver is missing, you should see something like "unknown device".

What is the model number of your card? You should find a sticker on the card with this information.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Hi Yuriry,

Your system doe not recognice the cards.
It can be that your firmware is to low for this system. Also you have to go to the server to look which kind of card it is. It can me a card that is not supported on a hp11.11.

Re: HP-UX 11.11 and Fiber Channel Adapter

Thank you, Torsten-!

Tomorrow I'll try to replace this adaptor.
Last time I see it, I saw a sticker with the following information: A6218A (2Gb-FC).
