Migration 10.10 to 10.20 or 11.00
We are using HP 9000 D210 OS HP-UX 10.10.
At this moment we are thinking to migrate to 10.20 or 11.00.
I am wondering about the differences of cost and effectivity or something else.
I need suggestion to make a good decision.
Regards,
Damanik

Re: Migration 10.10 to 10.20 or 11.00
Are you Y2K compliant? That should be your most important consideration.
10.20 is the "standard" version most people run with. 11.00 is the "leading
edge" release that comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes. I don't believe
there are a lot of 64-bit apps that can take advantage of that mode though.

Re: Migration 10.10 to 10.20 or 11.00
The decision will depend somewhat on your processing environment. 11.00 is
"leading edge" which means it also has had less time for some bugs to be
"shaken out". In particular, we have had strange interactions with some of the
third party products we use and the 64-bit kernel. Also some strangeness in
networking with SNA and X.25 protocols. On the other hand, 11.00 is more than
a year old, so alot of these problems have been solved and documented by HP.
The upgrade procedure should be fairly similar whether migrating to 10.20 or
11.00. The main benefits I have seen in 11.00 is the 64-bit kernel (assuming
apps to utilize the power) and the "smart dump" which means you no longer have
to "waste" several Gig of disk space to capture a crash. also, once they get
the actual mechanisms in place to utilize the dynamic kernel configuration
hooks, that will be a big plus. But to my knowledge there have been no
proctical implementations yet. On the other hand -- 10.20 is Y2K compliant,
well-understood, generall
y quite stable and should require little/no reconfiguration of your servers.
