Re: Restore OS to lower hard disk spec

Shalom ng,

Probably.

If you have that 36 GB filled with more than 18 GB of stuff, no.

However Ignite recovery lets you manually intervene and change logical volume sizes. So long as you don't reduce any particular logical volume below the amount of actual space used, you can do this.

Re: Restore OS to lower hard disk spec

Hi ng,

Short answer "yes", but to qualify that if the filesystem size are more than 18GB then you will need to reduce them in the file system setup screen. If you have more than 18GB of data (inc. swap) then you will not be able to load the OS to 18GB.

Hope that helps

Mike.

Re: Restore OS to lower hard disk spec

thanks for your quick response. if I reduce my OS file to less than 18 GB, then do a make_tape_recovery again , can I recover it to 18 GB hard disk ? any special steps to do that ?

Re: Restore OS to lower hard disk spec

You should interrupt the install process while restoring. In the install window, you can adjust the LVOL size for each filesystem.

Hope this helps!

Re: Restore OS to lower hard disk spec

when restoring from ignite, it will take disk as a disk. its up to u that you should care about where to restore. means if image size is greater then disk space, it will fail.
again you need to manage filesystems according to disk space.
you have options to reduce/increase logical volume size when installing.
best way to do a paper work with bdf output. plan your new logical volume size as per your disk space and take backup and install the image. you need to care about lv size.
