Slow ftp transfer

Hi boys and girls,

My FTP is working so slowly.
What could be the problem.
Connection & login are OK.
The mashine CPU is idle.
"#top" is OK.
"lanadmin" show me no down lan-interfaces and no error packages.
Any idea?

Re: Slow ftp transfer

Hi,

First thing I would check is the speed of the interface. If you are using 100 base network, try setting the speed to 100 Full Duplex on both the interface on the system and the port on the switch. You can use "lanadmin -x ppa#" to determine the speed and "lanadmin -X 100FD ppa#" to set the speed. To retain the speed settings, you will need to configure your /etc/rc.config.d/hpconf file.

Re: Slow ftp transfer

Hi,
Even though your system is free and not loaded your network definitely must be Overloaded with the network traffic. Try checking your network now.

Re: Slow ftp transfer

OK, boys :)
Thanx for responces. But how I can check
the settings of switch port from the system?

Re: Slow ftp transfer

Hi,

From the system you cannot. If you turn-on autonegotiation on the card, it will try to match the speed of the switch port but it's not guaranteed. You will need to logon to the switch and look at the port. If you do not manage the network, then check with your network administrators.

BTW, what did your "lanadmin -x ppa#" say?.

Re: Slow ftp transfer

for system 1:
#lanscan
Hardware Station Crd Hdw Net-Interface NM MAC HP-DLPI DLPI
Path Address In# State NamePPA ID Type Support Mjr#
0/0/0/0 0x00306E274B6E 0 UP lan0 snap0 1 ETHER Yes 119

#lanadmin -x ppa 0
Current Speed = 100 Full-Duplex Auto-Negotiation-ON

for system2:

#lanadmin -x speed 1
Speed = 1000 Full-Duplex.
Autonegotiation = On.

Re: Slow ftp transfer

Hi!

I suggest that you, or the network administrator, check the ports in the switch. They should also be set to Auto-Negotiation ON.

You also could try to lower MTU. The packets might be to big.

Re: Slow ftp transfer

hi,
Try with manual Full-duplex 100 from the server side as many times HP-UX does not support Auto Negotiation though it shows it is on.

Regs,

I'll sleep when i am dead.
