Re: Two OS on same system

Two OS on same system

I have 18 * 4 Gb disk space in my HP machine and i have two OS installed

Now through alternate and primary boot path i can boot to 11.00 and 10.20

I have not change any configuration of the machine for both the OS.

I have a major problem is in 11.00 ican take backup with the help of the 12/24 DAT but if i try to access the same drive through other OS i am getting error as

tar can not open device /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST(where in both the OS i have not done any change)

Previously it used to work but suddenely i found the problem currently.

Can anyone help me in this matter?

I have tried to recreate the device files and tried again .
I have reconfigure the kernal also.but i could not do it.
Regards

Re: Two OS on same system

Nikhil,

My first idea would be the device-file, too. Can you please post a lssf /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST
And an ioscan -fnC tape?
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data

Re: Two OS on same system

Sorry for late reply

I have tried all the options to see whether device drivers are present or not as well i have seen the ioscan -funC tape output also which shows that device is claimed.

And i have recrete the device files with the help of commands

mksf -C tape as well as insf -eC tape

which is recreating device and special files for device.

I am totally confused abt it.

Pls give me more idea other than this.

Re: Two OS on same system

Nikhil,

Your problem sounds pretty strange.
I still would like to see the output of 'lssf /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST' because I think that the device-file is the key to your problem. Which tape patch is installed on the system? I assume it is at least PHKL_17337. If not, I would recommend to install PHKL_20529
It is hard to give you trouble shooting hints without any data, so please post an output of the lssf and the exact error message

Re: Two OS on same system

HI

Thanks for your reply

Can you give me idea abt the patch ?
where i will get the patch.

The problem is strange and i know what can be the solution but i am not sure abt it.
I need someone to help me and i think i will try downloading patch and i will try to run the same.
The exact error message is when i said open DAT drive or contenets of the tape it is giving me error as

tar can not open /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST

Guide me what to do.
I am really could not figure out what is the exact problem.

I am confused to get such type of problems.

Re: Two OS on same system

You can find the patch under: Maintenance/Support -> Individual Patches
The patch description is: s800 10.20 stape and tape2 cumulative patch
One defect fixed by this patch is: mksf command doesn't recognize density values for STK 9840, STK 9490, STK SD-3, IBM 3590, DDS3, and some of the DLT densities.
I'm not sure about this patch. But it can't be wrong to install it

Unfortunately is the error message not helpful. You get the message if it's not possible to write or read. If no drive is present or no tape?.

Did you check if the content of the device file is right? Sorry that I always repeat this question, but I never got an answer.
