UPS for UX 11

Has anyone any experience using an APC UPS? We have L1000/ UX11.0 and an APC SmartUPS. What software is required to get the server to run a shutdown script when the UPS runs out?

Also, which serial cable is required?

Re: UPS for UX 11

To get the monitoring and shutdown capabilities for APC UPS, you need to buy the Powerchute software. They send the windows verson free, but the UNIX has to be purchased. We have it, and it works fine. It allows you to set up monitoring stuff and tests and the shutdown parameters (shut down with x minutes of battery left, etc). It will also send messages to syslog when it goes on battery. I think you need the black cable to hook it up (as opposed to the grey one), but you should confirm this with APC when you order the software.

Alan,
APC has PowerChute plus for HP-UX and the documentation includes cabling instructions. It communicates via a serial port and in addition to shutdown will monitor staus, battery condition, etc.

BTW it's not free.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
