How Seagate conquered cloud performance problems

JudyRedman on ‎01-18-2011 12:03 PM

You take the plunge and move some of your critical IT applications to the cloud.  You’re happy about the opportunity to support critical technology services more cost-effectively.  But how do you lessen the risk and keep sleeping soundly once your cloud initiative is launched?

cloud island.jpgLearn how storage device company Seagate Technology, faced with unsatisfactory performance and availability of both on-premise and cloud applications, was able to extend their application performance monitoring to provide proactive monitoring of the cloud service and tell the cloud provider how well they were doing. See how the cloud can be conquered when you have the right tools and the right strategy in place.

Seagate had established an Application Performance Management (APM) Center of Excellence (CoE) with a foundation of monitoring tools including HP Operations Manager and HP SiteScope software. These are integrated with HP Quality Center and Performance Center software, which Seagate developers use for requirements management, test planning and execution, and defect management. It’s a mature and sophisticated applications monitoring approach, and it delivers clear value to Seagate.

By monitoring email services with HP Application Performance Management software, Seagate is able to detect service performance issues, and efficiently determine whether the issues originate with Seagate or the provider’s systems. The company is able to use this data to manage its relationship with its cloud providers and ensure SLAs are met.
