How predictive analytics can identify what processes to automate in the Cloud

by Muneer Mubashir, Senior Marketing Manager, Cloud and Automation

As IT organizations transform themselves for the Cloud era, they need to better automate processes. How do you know which processes need to be automated?  The simple answer is that you target processes that your team now repeatedly executes manually.

But this a reactive approach that reflects how IT works today—it won’t help create a roadmap of what IT can automate to effectively use cloud services in the future.

This was just one of the topics I discussed with HP Enterprise Services’ Distinguished Technologist E.G. Nadhan as part of a conversation for The Power to Change virtual event. E.G made several interesting points about the shift from servers to services and how IT organizations and professionals can chart their future.

Automation driven by predictive analytics

In E.G’s opinion, big data analytics will play a significant role in delivering value to the business: automation can help improve predictive analytics, and analytics can in turn inform automation initiatives.

E.G. stressed the importance of analytics that reveal how customer needs are changing. “Enterprises need to pay attention, to not only understand what customers are thinking today, but also to predict what the customer would like in the future,” said E.G.

Collaborating with the CMO

He went on to explain that in the new style of IT, it will be important for the CIO to work closely with the chief marketing officer (CMO) because of that executive’s direct access to customer sentiment. This is key to ensuring automation realizes business value.

“With this approach, you are able to realize intelligence from raw data, and you are automatically driving automation initiatives at the right players for the right processes,” E.G. said. “The end-game is to understand what the customer wants tomorrow, which will help you get to a future-state of IT architecture that’s driven by serving the business.”
