HP9000 E25

Hi,

recently our company aquired another firm. Because of this we have come into
possession of a number of disused HP9000 E25 which were put away in a store
room along with a HP9000 857S (6 Mux cards in this one).

I haven't encountered these products before and I can't seem to hunt down any
technical specs on these.
I also haven't been able to find a system terminal,
does anyone know how I can emulate a system terminal to check these systems
out?

If we can't find a use for them internally, we'll probably just scrap them.

Best Regards,

Nick.

Re: HP9000 E25

These systems (The E-class) consisted of a range of 4 levels, the E25, E35,
E45, and E55.
They are based on the PA7100LC chip, or PA-RISC 1.1c
They came with a Multifunction I/O card which included a connection for the
console, normally an HP700/92 or 700/96 terminal. They also had a built in
BNC/AUI LAN connection, if memory serves me correctly.
They came standard with a 2 slot expansion backplane, which could be changed
for a 4 slot backplane.
They are obsolete, but definitely still useable, as they will run HP-UX 10.20
and even 11 (32 bit)
The 857S is also known as the I30, has 12 slots expansion backplane, and
dependant on the Multifunction I/O card in slot 13/14, may have the same
functions as the E25, but is built on the PA7000 chip, or PA-RISC 1.1a. Again
it is obsolete, but still serviceable as it will also run the HP-UX 11.x 32bit
OS.
Both of these should have a small DIN plug I believe on the card in slot 13/14,
which is your console port connection point, else they will have a connector
for a large cable which then connects to a panel known as an ADP, or mux
breakout panel.
The console would then go onto the port 0.
It may be worthwhile getting the local HP office to check them out before
scrapping them!

Re: HP9000 E25

OK, just did a sanity check, the E25 did NOT have the DIN style plug, but the
Mux breakout unit (ADP) connected via a cable into the Multifunction I/O card.

Sorry about that one, just shows how age is creeping up on me and the E-series.

Re: HP9000 E25

Thanks for you help.

I'll be having a look at them early next week when I get the time. I still need
to find a system terminal for them though

Re: HP9000 E25

Actually I have a e25. Believe I got a null modem cable and ran it to the mux (which in turn is connected to the e25). Be sure to put the modem cable on port 0. Tie the other end into another computer. On mine I ran windows nt and used Hyperterminal. The baud is 9600, no parity, 8 bits, 1 stop bit I believe and it should work for you.

Enjoy!!!
What in the hell....Blame Canada!!!
