HP9000 R390

I need to upgrade an HP9000 r390 with (2) 128Mb sticks of RAM to 1Gb of RAM. Does anyone know if I need to buy (6) more 128 Mb sticks, or if I can buy (4) 256Mb sticks, or rather (2) 512Mb sticks. I just can't find any documentation on this server.
Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Matt:

You can purchase the a 512MB Kit, A 256MB Kit, or a 128MB kit. Each uses a pair of SIMM's. The easist thing to do is look up your model on http://www.kingston.com. Thet have the HP part numbers and the Kingston Numbers if that's what you want.

Thanks! But do you know if I can leave the (2) 128Mb sticks I have in there now. Or do I need to just start over and by one of the kits.

You can mix and match although the rule is that the bigger modules go in the lower numbered slot pairs.

You also want to be aware that if you have low speed memory in your box, and you install high speed memory in, the high speed stuff will step down to the lower speed. If you are planning on keeping your old, slow memory, there is no sense paying more for the faster stuff. Some 3rd party vendors will give you a trade in on the old memory.
