Installing multiple NICs in a HP 9000 E class Server

We are currently running MSM on HP-UX 9000 and have a requirement for using the
DEC DDP & LAT network protocols. One of our sites is soon to install a
structured cabling solution and wants to ensure that no unnecessary LAT/DDP
traffic is broadcast across the entire network. A suggestion has been made to
install 2 network cards, 1 dedicated to IP, the other for DDP/LAT and IP (ie
the server acting as a filtering bridge).

1. Is this possible ?
2. Is this sensible (or should we just chuck a bridge in-between the segments
anyway

Adding in the NIC's is a possibility, but will depend on how many slots you
have free in the system.
The E-class server came standard with 2 x half-height I/O slots, or if you
needed a Full height card, (HP-PB Fast/Wide SCSI card) this would take up
both.
There is ( or was) a 2 to four slot backplane upgrade which would give you
another 2 half-height/1 full-height slot availability.
Then it would depend on the type of NIC you wanted to use, e.g. the J2165A
10BaseT card if I remember correctly.
