Server Sizing

We have several 9000 servers from "H", "D", and "K" class with many new
projects for which we need to be able to size and compare systems from a
chart. Future projects will consider the use of "L", "N", and even "V" class
systems.

Where can we find such a chart (or set of charts) comparing each of the
different classes with each of the possible processor configurations so that we
can design systems according to the expected loading?

Re: Server Sizing

I seen such a document before. My VAR sales rep had one. Check with the area HP
sales office for one.

Try calling the pre-sales phone number 1800-637-7740
I believe the can get bench marks.

Re: Server Sizing

Good luck. We were running a K570 that was buried.
I spoke with at least 7 different people at HP trying
to get such a document that would do a side-by-side
comparison of the K with a V2500. No one could produce
anything. There used to be a place on the sales web
site where you could do such a comparison. It has
vanished. All of the docs. I was able to find on HP
web sites gave different performance metrics. Almost
impossible to do a comparison.

Re: Server Sizing

If you talk to your HP sales representative tell him/her that you want the TPC
rating guide for the HP servers. This will provide you with true benchmarks and
if you want the audited version request level C. The benchmarks are not all
available in level C but I found their TPC level A was trust worthy.

You may want to keep in mind that system configuration has a large impact to
performance. I built a H class server that beat a K class system because of I/O
spanning on F/W CTRLs and disk drive sizes.
