Server can,t be booted

Hello Friends,

 

I tried to boot one server,

 

which ended with failure. It said that :

Boot
: disk(0/1/1/0.0.0.0.0.0.0;0)
disk(0/1/1/0.0.0.0.0.0.0;0)/stand/: cannot open, or not executable
Exec failed: No such file or directory

 

I tried the steps mentioned by our forum friends.

 

I figured out , there is no presence of vmunix.pre file.

 

I don't know how should i proceed next?

 

I need to know what is the root cause of that problem and how can i overcome this......

 

 

Please help me

What model server do you have?  What HP-UX version?

If the disk is mirrorred, you can try the other disk. From the boot menu do

 

> sea ipl

 

the for example

 

> bo 1

 

to boot from the entry 1 in the list.

I already tried

 

But it didn't work for me...

 

Actually i have only one disk and i dont have an alternate boot path

 

Please help me...

So it is likely time for your ignite backup and a new disk.

I will have to assume that you tried using the SEA command to show all the possible boot paths like p0 p1 p2 and that you also tried booting vmunix.prev (it really helps if you show exactly what you tried).

 

The error message says that the vmunix file can't be found. Although there is no way to know exactly what happened, it is possible that someone logged in as root removed the vmunix files from /stand. The system will still run but cannot be rebooted. There are many other possibilities but the result is the same -- there appear to be no kernel files to boot from.

 

There is no way to replace these files since the system isn't running. There are only two choices:

 

1. Recover the boot disk using your Ignite backup tape.

 

2. Reinstall the system from your Install DVDs.
