adding memory to 9000

we have an hp9000 that came with not docs...
it apparently has 64 megs of ram, we were given
a cage with 128 megs of ram in it. how does one add
this ram to the system.

I am familiar with unix and hardware, just not
on that particular system.

Re: adding memory to 9000

You do not specify which 9000 system this is.
Without that information, it is impossible to advise on how you would install
the memory.
If you have a fairly recent system, then the attached link may be of interest.

Re: adding memory to 9000

The memory filling is specific to the class but there are some general rules
that one has to keep in mind while addding memory in HP9000 systems

1) Memory modules are to be filled in pairs of 2 each
always like 0a,0b 1a,1b 2a,2b ....
2) Within a pair memory modules should be identical
say both modules should be 32mb each or 16 mb each
You cannot but one 32mb and one 16mb in one pair
make sure both are of same part number for safety
3) The highest module pair should be put in the lowest
slot. say 32mb is your higest module. put it in 0a,0b
slots. this is very helpful in memory interleaving and hence increase system
performance
