Description of the latest FW 41.02 says it support CPU rev. 3.1. What does it mean? Because the system reports its FW as 40.4 and such CPU's seems to work fine. By the way who can say: does 40.4 mean 40.40 or 40.04 ?
And one more question. I used to upgraded firmware via bootable tape. For new servers it is in OS patch. When FW code is actually written in PDC hardware? Automatically after reboot?
Thanks

Re: firmware for N4000
/usr/sbin/diag/contrib/pdcinfo
if you don't have it get PHSS_14982
or equivalent for your system.
This will give you info on your pdc revision.
I would imagine the pdc h/w is written to when the pdc tape upgrade says do not power off your server at this point....
PHSS_21679 allows online f/w update. That happens offline..
haven't heard of revision 40.4, but the 40.25 was released aug 2000 and 41.02 feb 2001

Re: firmware for N4000
When you apply firmware patch, system will be rebooted a couple of times.
After first reboot, you can see firmware downloading instead of normal boot procedure.
After this has done, the second reboot will take place which will bring the system up.
Please notice that you don't have to do anything while firmware is downloading.
Doing something can cause firmware corruption. Finally, failed to bring the system up.
Best regards,
