vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.

I got this error (vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error) on one of the rp7400 server. I got this kind of messgae 20 days back.
Is there anyway to find out which processor is generating this error. I had checked in stm through logtool and also there were no files generated on /var/tombstones.

TIA

Have a look at this recent posting. Looks like there is not too much to worry about unless it is a frequent occurance.

Re: vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.

Hi,

try this if OnlineDiagnostic is installed and running:
1) start 'cstm'.
2) on "cstm>" Prompt, type 'ru l'
3) on "Logtool Utility>" Prompt, type 'sr'
4) select recent file...
5) now do the formatting on typing 'fl' on the "Logtool Utility>" prompt...look for the LPMC event...there should be something about the corresponding HPA (hard physical adress) of the CPU experiencing this LPMC...

Anyway, a single LPMC is no reason of concern!

regards.

Re: vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.

No, Its doesnt give me any details regarding the physical address, the following is the output from STM.

Summary of: /var/stm/logs/os/log2.raw.cur

Date/time of first entry: Sun May 2 21:16:57 2004

Date/time of last entry: Sun May 2 21:16:57 2004

Number of LPMC entries: 1
Number of System Overtemp entries: 0
Number of LVM entries: 0
Number of Logger Event entries: 0

Number of I/O Error entries: 0

Re: vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.

Hi,

the output you stated above is the about from the "sr" (select raw) command at "Logtool Utility>" prompt.

Try to do afterwards at that prompt first "fr" (format raw) and then "fl" (formatted log). This will produce a more detailed output...

Re: vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.

If you are getting this error frequently
(atleast once a day) then you have to
replace the corresponding processor.
Once in two weeks, you can ignore!!

Thanks Tobias,

I had collected the formatted information, but i am not sure, which part in the command shows the processor thats giving error. I am attaching the file. Could you please have a look?

Your help is highly appreciatable.

Solution

Re: vmunix: LPMC type : I-Cache Parity Error.

Hi,

The HPA info in the attachment needs to be translated to a CPU #. To do that you'll need to run up the STM software & tie that HPA # to a CPU #

Run up xstm & pull down Device & choose Select & then Class. Highlight CPU & click OK. Then pull down Tools & select Information & then Run

This will give you a report with *all* the CPUs & then just match that HPA # to the appropriate CPU #.
