Feedback on EMS, HA Monitors user manuals / release notes

Hello folks,

Did you find the following documents useful?

Using the Event Monitoring Service manual
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B7609-90022/B7609-90022.html

Using High Availability Monitors manual
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B5736-90046/B5736-90046.html

Any suggestions/comments on the above mentioned documents are welcome.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks,
Hemanth

Re: Feedback on EMS, HA Monitors user manuals / release notes

My answer.

No, not terribly useful.

Not totally valueless.

I did learn a few things when I tried to figure out why I've been getting false media errors on one of my 4 GB hotswaps on the D320 I keep in the basement.

It also helped me figure out why my Xiotech disk array is mistaken for a disk(a failed one) when a fiber card is connected to the array and has no LUN0 assigned.

I wish the tool was more accurate and a bit smarter.

They could be enhanced a lot.

Do you work for HP or are you just complaining?

Re: Feedback on EMS, HA Monitors user manuals / release notes

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

The manuals describe the the following products:
EMS Framework (B7609BA) and
HA Monitors (B5736DA).

Can you let me know what sections/information are missing in the above manuals?

Yes, I work for HP.

Thanks,
Hemanth

Re: Feedback on EMS, HA Monitors user manuals / release notes

I answered this question prior to it being moved to the documentation forum, or misinterpreted the category.

My prior commentary was on the products not the documentation.

The documentation is reasonable and does help me use the EMS product.

Since I was the only reply and quite the foolish one at that, I actually read the EMS manual and just finished setting up montioring on my Network Interfaces of my educational HP-9000 server in the basement.

I now say the EMS product is useful, possibly very useful.

The documentation thus far has been complete and useful.

I will play with it some more especially when Service Guard comes online and post back.

Nice thread.

Happy New Year.

Going to take a sip of beer and look at the fireplace now.

Re: Feedback on EMS, HA Monitors user manuals / release notes

Hi Hemanth,

The docs are of very good quality. They were very useful when I was playing around with HA monitors. I feel it is a must read for everyone working on these products. Am sure that even experienced sys admins will learn something new from these docs.

Have a great day.

Sri Ram
