HP UX upgrade from 11v1 to v2 or v3

Dear HP UX Gurus

I am fairly new in HP UX. Can anyone please provide me with info concerning major differences between the Versions and recommended methods for an upgrade.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

These are the guides that you need in order to update the OS.

If you want to go to 11.23 .
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-2701/5991-2701.pdf

Or 11.31
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-6460/5991-6460.pdf

The guides are well detailed about all the necessary information that you need to know about the system before starting the upgrade.
I really prefer a cold install than an upgrade but if that's your only choice, good luck.

Best regards,

Marco

For me, the major difference is in the end-of-support dates:

If you wish to update from 11.11 to 11.31, you either have to first update to 11.23, then go to 11.31, or cold install 11.31
There is NO direct update from 11.11 to 11.31

Which way you go depends entirely on what you are trying to acheive, and what applications you are running

Hi Michael:

You should find this document of interest in understanding some of the feature differences.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12079_div/12079_div.HTML

Be sure to evaluate this too:

Of course, 11.31 (11iv3) is the newest member of the 11i family and brings many, new rich features. Some of these features have been back-ported to 11.23 (11iv2). Thus if you can't upgrade to 11.31 but have a choice between 11.11 and 11.23, you should choose 11.23.

Regards!
