Enclosure alerts decoding for SNMP agents

Randall is looking to answer a customer question:

********************

Where can I find a guide for my customer to help them decode the following events?

From the customer:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

We’re trying to get our enclosures set up for monitoring SNMP events via HPOM and have some questions about the following SNMP traps listed below. What we want to be careful of is alerting on traps that happen too frequently and generate “white noise” for operations. In some cases we don’t have a clear understanding of what causes a trap to be generated (e.g. “Blade cleared”).

Can you assist by trying to identify what causes some of these traps and give us your take on if they should be monitored or not?

• Enclosure Event 0x10: Fan Status Changed ?may generate too many alerts

• Enclosure Event 0x15: Fan at Max Percentage ?may generate too many alerts

• Enclosure Event 0x18: Fan Over Consuming Power ??

• Enclosure Event 0x20: Thermal Status Changed ?may generate too many alerts

• Enclosure Event 0x30: Power Supply Status Changed

• Enclosure Event 0x33: Power Supply Subsystem Redundant Status Changed

• Enclosure Event 0x35: AC Failure is this cooling or power feed or power supply?

• Enclosure Event 0x40: Interconnect Device Status Changed – depends on what specific type of device – need to get clarification

• Enclosure Event 0x41: Interconnect Device Reset should rarely ever see this (OA upgrade, for example)

• Enclosure Event 0x46: Interconnect Device Health LED Status Changed (see note #2 at top) does this encompass 47?

• Enclosure Event 0x47: Interconnect Device Thermal Status Changed (see note #2 at top)

• Enclosure Event 0x49: Interconnect Device Power Mode Changed ?what does this really mean?

• Blade Event 0x100: Blade Device Status Changed ?what kinds of status changes

• Blade Event 0x108: Blade Device Thermal Status Change ?may generate too many alerts

• Enclosure Event 0x100B: Blade Cleared ? need info

• Enclosure Event 0x100C: Switch Cleared ? need info”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any help would be appreciated.

Input from Eduardo:

Not all of the Enclosure events are supported as SNMP traps.

Refer to the OA User guide on page 250 for supported SNMP traps.

The highlighted enclosure event is referring to power.

Any other input for Randall?
