Need example of "update device" to update pass-thru modules in a c7000

Terri needed help getting a Pass-Thru Module firmware updated.

Hello all,

I know the command from the OA cli is:

>update device

But looking at the syntax of the UPDATE command in the OA cli, I'm not sure exactly what customer should type to update his Pass-thru modules in interconnect bay 3 & 4.

We did run the SHOW UPDATE and the installed Pass-thru fw rev is older then what is available from his OA 2.60.

From the OA v3.00 CLI Guide, the “update device” command operates on the enclosure firmware components on the Insight Display LCD, OA Tray, non-server blades, interconnect bays (or icbay), or fans using the syntax described in the CLI user guide below.  The CLI “update show” command lists the current and newversion for each of the supported enclosure firmware components by bay number.

UPDATE

 Command:

UPDATE {SHOW | DEVICE} [FORCE] {ALL | LCD | TRAY | BLADE [ALL | <location> [{ , | - } <location>]] | ICBAY [ALL | <location> [{ , | - } <location>]] | FAN [ALL | <location> [{ , | - } <location> ]]}

 Description:

The UPDATE SHOW (or SHOW UPDATE) command displays enclosure devices that are available for firmware upgrade.

The UPDATE DEVICE command executes the firmware upgrade process on one or more available enclosure devices.

 – you would update a pass-thru interconnect in bay 3 by typing:

  • update device icbay 3

Alternatively, you could use “interconnect” as a synonym in that command:

  • update device interconnect 3

As described in the other postings below – this will reset all the ports on that pass-thru interconnect module, so I recommend performing this command on a single pass-thru at a time, unless all the server blades using this(or these) pass-thru are powered off.

Have you successfully updated your PTMs? Le tus know how you accomplished it.

Entering anything other than 'YES' will result in the command not executing.

Component upgrade may be disruptive to system operation...
Are you sure you want to continue?
yes

Upgrading... DO NOT remove or power cycle device(s)!
