A question Mixing SATA and SAS in a BL460c Gen8 v2

A drive question from Joe:

************

Am configuring a BL460c blade for VDI workload, using a SATA SSD and SAS HDD as local storage.  SBW/Watson throws the following error: “Mixing of SAS HDD/SAS SSD limits the Raid Level setting to Raid 0 on the BL460c Gen8 Blade; No other combinations of SAS/SATA/SSD is allowed.”  I understand the RAID 0 statement, but am confused about “No other combinations allowed”.

Can I mix the drives in the blade as planned?

From the BL460c Gen8 QuikSpecs…..

NOTE: The mixing of standard SAS drives with SAS SSD is supported within the server, but limits the RAID configuration to two separate RAID 0 volumes. Mixing of other drives types is not supported.

Re: A question Mixing SATA and SAS in a BL460c Gen8 v2

From Norman:

You should be able to mix SAS, SATA or SSDs within a blade server (two slots for BL460c). However, you would likely only run either drive as RAID 0.

Likely Watson was kicking back a message to ensure you know that you can only RAID 0 this build.

FYI: Gen9 offers “HP H244br Smart HBA” as a viable option.

And from Dan:

No other combinations = No other RAID levels.

Its telling you that you cannot mirror the 2 drives for example.

It is also stating that mixing of SATA rotational with SATA SSDs is not supported.
