Virtual Connect Flex 10, Nexus 1000v and VMware vSphere
Ron had a customer question regarding failover best practices:
***********************
Dear Experts,
On of my customer just bought our blade with Virtual Connect Flex10. Then they already install with vmware sphere with vswitch. They use “Beacon Probling” to trigger the failover. Somehow they want to use exus 1000v and they can’t do the failover. Cisco blame that our Virtual Connect is not configured properly, because Nexus 1000v doesn’t have beacon probling feature. How to do the failover if they want to use VC flex10 and Nexus 1000v ? Does anybody have some reference on how to do the configuration and diagram.
Thanks in advance.

Andreas had a Knowledge Brief from VMware:

Roland,
See the statement from the “Virtual Connect and VMware Impacts” TechTalk.
“Failover
- Link Status only <- recommend for use with VC SmartLink and DCC enabled driver
- Beacon Probing - used for switches that don’t have SmartLink capability.
…and architecture has known duplicate MAC vulnerability.

Any other comments or suggestions? There also is the HP brief on how to use Virtual Connect with the Nexus 1000v.
