SmartLink

Hello,

My understanding of what SmartLink does, is that when a link failure occurs to all the uplink ports associated with a VNET, then Smartlink will automatically shut down the downlink port.

This will mark the Flexnics that run through this LOM as disconnected in the OS, and cause any configured NIC team(s) to failover.

However, more than one VNET will be using this downlink port, so even if you don't enable SmartLink on other VNETs, if it's enabled on one then this will shut down the port anyway.  Are my assumptions correct?

I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't want SmartLink enabled.  Surely you want the connection in the OS to recognise it's disconnected when the associated uplink fails?

Thanks

Re: SmartLink

Okay, I think a better question to help my understanding should really be - When wouldn't you need Smartlink enabled?
