Stacked Flexfabric 20/40 VC modules: SUS ports status Linked and Linked-Active

Hello,

I have two HP C7000 enclosures (Enc1 and Enc2) with two Flexfabric 20/40 interconnect modules (VC1 in bay-1 and VC2 in bay-2) in each enclosure. We have stacked the two enclosures as follow (by adopting the scenario shown in the attached photo):

a- Connecting ports X5 and X6 of Enc1-VC1 to ports X5 and X6 in Enc2-VC1 respectively.

b- Connecting ports X5 and X6 of Enc1-VC2 to ports X5 and X6 in Enc2-VC2 respectively.

c- Configuring two Shared Uplink Sets SUS1 and SUS2 as follow:

SUS1 (two ports X7 and X8 of Enc1-VC1), SUS2 (two ports X7 and X8 of Enc2-VC2)

Each SUS is connected to two stacked Nexus core switches (one port from SUS1 is connected to the first Nexus switch and the second port is connected to the second Nexus switch; same for SUS2)

The BL460c Gen9 servers are configured as Windows 2012R2 Hyper-V servers with Teaming. We have tested the availability. We have tested the network availability by disconnecting SUS1, link is OK through SUS2 and vice versa.

My question is:

The ports status in SUS1  are shown as Linked-Active and the ports in SUS2 are shown as Linked (see attached photo); any explanation please to this status? we have already configured servers profiles in both enclosure in a way where for each server LOM port1 is connected to SUS1 and LOM port2 is connected to SUS2.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Stacked Flexfabric 20/40 VC modules: SUS ports status Linked and Linked-Active

Any idea if using ports X7 and X8 on VC 20/40 F8 flexfabric module, impacts the 40Gb cross links between the two VC modules in the same enclosure? (adjacent interconnects)

For more information, please find a Visio diagram showing the stack and SUS links on both enclosures

Re: Stacked Flexfabric 20/40 VC modules: SUS ports status Linked and Linked-Active

We are testing our Win2012R2 Hyper-V cluster with two nodes (one Bl460c G9 in the first enclosure and another node in the second enclosure),by powering down one of the VC modules where connected one of the uplink sets:

If a VM active on first node in the upper enclosure and we power down its VC module (with SUS), access should continue through the stack then via SUS in the other enclosure but it is not: remote desktop session via stack links to the VM in the enclosure with powered off VC stopped. Access resume when failing over the VM to the enclosure with active SUS.

Is there any settings to do on the stacking ports of each VC module?
