VM traffic flow between the same VLAN on different HP Blades

Hi,

Does anyone here can clarify if the VM VLAN traffic on different HP Blades but between the same VLAN ID goes out to through the trunk link to the core data center switch and back to the correct Blade host or does it only flows through the Virtual Connect module and then goes to the destination VM in the different Blade ?

Best regards,

Re: VM traffic flow between the same VLAN on different HP Blades

Usually not.

As long as Host A and Host B are using the same "Network" inside Virtual Connect, that traffic stays inside.

However if you have an Active/Active design and you have 2 copies of that network.
VLAN10A and VLAN10B
Then it will depend on which NIC each VM is being told to use by VMware.
Because VLAN10A and B are technically 2 different networks, your traffic might go up and over.

The way to fix this is to set the NIC Teaming on the vSwitch or Port Group to use the same vmnic on each host as Active path and move the other vmnic down to Standby. This way they all prefer either A or B but are not split between them.
