hi
we have a C7000 Blade Enclosure with Onboard Administrator firmware 2.41
We need to upgrade it to 3.21 because of a new blade server BL 460c G7.
The Enclosure also have some BL460c G6 and
2x GbE2c Ethernet Blade Switch
2x HP 4Gb Fibre Channel Pass-thru Module
Unfortunately i have spend all day to find compatibility requirements for Onboard Administrator 3.21 and rom , ilo versions with no luck!!
all documents redirect me to site
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/blades/bladesystemupdate.html
the above site do not provide this information.
so...what is the minimum firmware level of ilo and rom version to be able to work with onboard administrator 3.21?
and whats the update steps... first firmware upgrade to the latest firmwares on BL 460c G6 and then firmware upgrade to the Onboard Administrator?
any help would be appreciated
thanks in advanced

Hi,
You can go to http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/bladesystemupdatestable.html
HP BladeSystem ProLiant firmware management best practices.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01857420/c01857420.pdf
Refer to page#20 onwards.
Thanks

Re: C7000 Onboard Administrator Firwmare Upgrade
From the Link you postet you self.
click full view table.
And you will find that 3.21 is supportet with release sets 2010.3, 2010.7 and 2010.10.
My recommadation is, that you bring your servers on FW DVD 9.20.
I will paste my personal notes in, on what I'm aware off. It might not be complete.

Re: C7000 Onboard Administrator Firwmare Upgrade
Issue Broadcom and ESX 4.1 see vmware kb 1029368
http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1029368 Broadcom nic.
See also kb 1029398 for a patch
Windows. ILo Fw 1.81 or older. Must upgrade Ilo driver first see:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&objectID=c01802766
Windows Broadcom driver. Windows 2003, 2008. If Broadcom driver is older than ver. 4.6.16.0,
Then 4.6.16.0 must be installed first:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=3709945&prodSeriesId=2510357&swItem=MTX-64aadf41b8b44edbb5ec5d3f30&prodNameId=3288154&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1
Re-enumeration at BIOS upgrade

Upgrade seq.
1. BIOS
2. ILO
3. PMC
4. OA
Inteconnect modules.
1, 2 and 3 done booting on the FW DVD. Then you don't need to think over the sequence.
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/c-class.html#tab3_content
Currently PSP 8.60 and FW DVD 9.20.
If VC is older than 1.34, then VC should be upgraded prior to OA.

Re: C7000 Onboard Administrator Firwmare Upgrade
but bringing servers on FW DVD 9.20 first will not have problem with Onboard administrator 2.41 ??
as i understand from the full table the FW DVD 9.00 is supported with onboard administrator 2.60 so i cannot apply FW DVD 9.20 with onboard administrator 2.41 because this will lead in a incompatible configuration
this information is useless
what i need to find is the compatibility with onboard administrator 3.21 and blades ilo and rom versions.
what is the minimum requirements of rom and ilo with onboard administrator 3.21 and the maximum supported rom and ilo with onboard administrator 2.41

SolutionUpgade the servers.
Upgrade the OA
Upgrade the the interconnct modules.
And you are in latest supported mode.
Upgrades are due to bug fixes and enhancements.
So if you upgrade the servers using FW DVD 9.20. There will be some new features that, you can't take advandege of, untill you upgrade the OA.
Servers will stil work, even better than before.
If you upgrade the OA, but not the servers, you will get some warnings. Thats it.
If it's possible to get a service window, wher you can take down the full enclosure.
I would do the following:
1. Update drivers.
2. Offline upgrade all servers.
3. Upgrade the OA
4. Upgrade the interconnects.
I have knowledge of hundres of blades running well in unsupportet mode.

Re: C7000 Onboard Administrator Firwmare Upgrade
is there a documentation for C7000 firmware and driver upgrade? I want to know if there's also any recommendation from HP or anyone (customers and partners alike) for safely upgrading the firmware and drivers for C7000. We are so far behind and we want to mitigate any knowns risks. Thanks in advance for your input. I new to HP Community but not necessarily HP products :)
Thank you.
