Installation of StoreVirtual VSA/LeftHand on ProLiant Gen9 Server

We recently purchased a Gen 9 server to use for SAN storage.  The plan is to install Left Hand OS 12.6 on the server.   Instuctions reference the installation of virtual software such as Hyper-V or VMWare in coordination with StoreVirtual to create a storage environment.   Apparently I'm not quite understanding the architecture or concepts of HPE StoreVirtual.  Is the installation of a virtual environment necessary for StoreVirtual or can the Left Hand software be installed on the server without virtualization software?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi DPD-Duke,

The Storevirtual environment consists of virtual appliances that needs to be run on either VMware ESXi or MS Hyper-V.

These are pointed out during the installation guide, where you'll have to connect to either hosts or a vCenter.

the "VSA" version is a virtual machine that is intended to run using a host hypervisor such as ESX or Hyper-v or Xen.  If you want the storevirtual appliance that runs direct on the hardware you should look into the hardware ones they sell.  check out hpe.com/us/en/storage/storevirtual.html for the breakdown.
