P4000 remote backup site as prod

Currently I'm running my production off of a remote SAN that is in the same switch as production. The production is running off of the snapshot rather than the volume and the remote volume is still tagged as remote. Would it be best practice to make this a Primary volume instead of remote and kick off a snapshot to fail my data back? Does anyone know the best practice to running your remote replicated data as prod while your real production environment rebuilds?
